Acupuncture

Acupuncture is traditional method of healing originating in China. The earliest identifiable acupuncture needles date back to the Sheng Dynasty, approximately 1500 B.C. We like to define acupuncture as a method of healing whereby a practitioner inserts a hair-thin needle in order to achieve a therapeutic effect.

This therapeutic effect can be different things. Traditional acupuncture point locations correspond to various regions, organs and processes within the body. By stimulating these points, the practitioner is able to influence these regions, organs and processes. Modern research reveals that much of acupuncture’s influence is due to the fact that an acupuncture stimulus travels through the nervous system, thus sending the body a “message”.

Acupuncture can also be used to relieve pain by stimulating musculature and soft tissue. Releasing tension, spasms and cramps by needling trigger points and motor points is a very common method of acupuncture practice.

Much of how acupuncture “works” is still being investigated by clinical studies, but its efficacy is a foregone conclusion and is endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Many celebrities receive acupuncture treatments. Read about them here or read some of the articles on acupuncture below.
